Introducing Octopus Foundation

Octopus Foundation begins with a simple conviction: the progress of artificial intelligence should be measured by whether it improves people's lives — their ability to communicate, participate, learn and live with dignity — and not by model capability alone.

Octopus Foundation is the community, accessibility, education and AI-for-good initiative of the wider Octopus ecosystem — deliberately distinct from the commercial entities around it, with its own mission and its own accountability. Our work is public-benefit work, and we intend to keep it transparent, evidence-led and shaped by the communities it serves. We will describe our governance and legal status plainly as they develop, and we will never claim more than we have done.

What we are starting with

Our first featured initiative explores how AI might support Auslan — Australian Sign Language — recognition and accessible communication. It is an early-stage research and community initiative, developed with and for Deaf and Auslan communities. It is not a finished product, and we are careful to say what it cannot yet do.

Alongside it, we are building the foundations for education, community working groups and support for social-impact founders.

How we work
